Description
Bee balm is noted for it's fragrant flowers that is the source of oil of thyme. The early Colonial Settlers and Native Americans used this plant as a source of edible and medicinal applications. Bee Balm can be used to make a tea, or dried and put in satchels for potpourri. In fact, folklore says that it was used for tea by the Colonists after the Boston Tea Party.
The beautiful lilac, pink or red flower varieties attract bees as well as hummingbirds and is an attractive addition to any garden.
This photo of the honey bee hanging on to a Bee Balm flower head was taken on my property in central Wisconsin in July 2016. I hope you enjoy!
