The Wisconsin State Capitol is a magnificent historical landmark that represents the Badger State with the motto "Forward".
There were three buildings that were built between 1836 and 1912 that were considered the Capitols of Wisconsin. Construction on the current building began in late 1906 and was finished in 1917. It is the highest building in the City of Madison. It is a magnificent site to behold at any time, but at night the dome is fully lit and shines like a beacon on a hill, for all to see from miles away.
A bronze statue of a "golden lady" was commissioned by Architect George B. Post, with the intent for her to be placed at the top of the dome. The bronze statue lady is gold leafed with a helmet that has the state animal, the Badger, on her head. Her left hand holds a globe surmounted by an eagle and her right hand is extended to represent the state motto "forward".
